The articles about the Gloria Steinem interview and uproar got me thinking.
I like the word feminism. It brings to mind those ladies in the 70’s that burned their bras on TV. I thought it cool. A tomboy, I rode horses and mended fences. Not a dumb chick, I got A’s in physics and calculus.
In my 30’s, I was a Purchasing Supervisor with 2 men reporting to me. I took Neil to a trade show with me and every single sales person assumed he was the supervisor and ignored me. Every one of them which pissed me off no end. The year was 1990 and even Neil was flabbergasted.
In my 40’s, I was a Purchasing Manager. In my 50’s, I downgraded to Purchasing Specialist. Not really my choice.
I’m sad to see the word feminism fall by the wayside, much maligned. We’re half the human race. But we don’t hold 50% of the seats in Congress or 50% of the CEO positions in major companies. We’re bossy, but not leaders.
Its progress at a snail’s pace. Voting for some dude is not going to speed it up.
True enough, voting for “some dude” achieves a status quo result. So does voting for “some woman”. It all depends on voting for the RIGHT woman, or man. Voting for Sarah Palin, or Carly Fiorina would not have helped. Voting for Geraldine Ferraro would have helped. Voting for Barack Obama DID help. This year, both Democrats are a right choice.
I agree, thanks for the input.
I work for a doctor, with 2 very smart daughters, who are in college preparing for careers in a mans world. As his constantly bashes Obama I can’t help but remind him how much his DAUGHTERS will be benefiting from some of his decisions and how his backward party is holding them back.
Good for you. I hope his daughters are not influenced by his attitude.
