JJ barks relentlessly and refuses to go into the basement.  I proceed downstairs with trepidation and peek around the corner.  Nothing, no gigantic rat or anything else, except Jack’s piles of crap he can’t bring himself to purge.  JJ walks behind me, still barking.  Is something in the backyard?  I step slowly through the dog curtain and there it is.  The plastic monster, waiting to eat unsuspecting dogs. JJ is not fooled.

The Dread Plastic Monster, Swallower of Dogs

I walk over and take the empty compost bag off the tree trunk.  This time I stuff it in the garbage can so it no longer morphs into the plastic monster.

Gretchen is a mini wiener dog about 10 lbs, who belongs to Marge, Jack’s mom.  Her back problems cause her to wobble when she walks.  Since she can’t move very fast no one in the house watches her closely.  Jack is a low level hoarder so our living room consists of piles of old games, chairs and boxes in all the corners.  Lots of cubby holes for small dogs.  The other day, Jack and Marge looked at each other and said, “Have you seen Gretchen?”  You know, it’s been 2 hours”.  Jack immediately searched the living room.  He heard a faint whining. Gretchen waddled into the cubby hole and couldn’t find her way out.  Jack extracted her only to hear whining a few days later and extract her again.  She’s a tough cookie, rarely barking.

Do you have dogs that see monsters or get lost easily?  I’d love to hear your story.
